How long does it take to spin one pound of wool into yarn?
My daughter is an avid spinner and can spin about one ounce of fiber in an hour. We're trying to find out if this is a typical rate.
That all depends on the type of wool one is using to spin and how thick the singles they are spinning!
I tend to spin very fine thread, so it takes me about 2 to 2.5 hours to spin an ounce! And that doesn't count whether I am using a flyer wheel or the walking wheel. It does have a different time if I am using drop spindle or Navajo spindle tho!
My fastest ounce of wool was a long wool (Lincoln) spun about 1/4 inch thick for bulky 2 ply and I did it in half an hour.
