What cleaner to use to keep a cat from urinating on my rug again
I have 4 cats and they keep peeing on my rugs and on a corner of my carpet. Their boxes are clean and they don't have a urinary tract infection. I just want to know what to put on my rugs and what type of cleaner to use so they don't go back to the scene of the crime. Home remedies would be best but anything would be great.
Remember, a cat’s sense of smell is fourteen times stronger than that of a human. This is why it is so important for you to thoroughly clean the urine spots. Even if you can’t smell it, your cat probably still smells the urine in the carpet, and this can make them want to “re-mark” that spot over and over.
To remove the smell of urine from just about anything, first clean it with some sort of soap or kitchen cleaner. Then clean it with lemon juice. If you don’t like the smell of lemon juice follow it up with a little bit of vanilla extract. One of the most effective formulas I’ve found for removing ANY odor was from Popular Science Magazine. Mix 1 quart of Hydrogen Peroxide, with 1/4 cup of Baking Soda, and one tablespoon of liquid dishwashing soap. Saturate the affected area, rinse thoroughly with clean water, and the smell is gone. This is non-toxic and safe for your animals and children, and those with allergies. This is especially helpful for removing skunk odor from your outdoor animals. As always, test a small portion of fabric for color fastness, before treating a large area.
What Won’t Work… There are many home remedies for treating pet stains and odors, and let me stress that most of them are not too bad as far as removing odors for humans’ noses. Vinegar, ammonia, baking soda, laundry detergents, lemon juice, fabric softeners, and commercial strength pet stain removers are all great for removing the odors that humans can smell. However; you will need more to remove the odor for your cat’s nose. An enzymatic cleaner is the best answer, but it is slow and may take more than one application, (Nature’s Miracle is one of them). The Hydrogen Peroxide/Baking Soda combo is fast, but can alter the colors of some fabrics. In the end, you must decide which application is best for your situation.
Even if you clean a pet stain with soap and water certain micro-organisms remain behind and your pet can smell them. Enzymatic Cleaners are designed to completely eliminate the source of the odor by using enzymes to eat away the micro-organisms that cause the odor. The one drawback to these cleaners is that they are slow; it could take several weeks for them to completely eliminate an odor. Enzymantic Cleaners are available at most pet stores, organic/natural/health food stores, and even some hardware stores. You can also ask your vet for suppliers.
Always scoop litter boxes at LEAST once a day, and change the litter at least once a week. When cleaning the box, use a mild detergent and finish by rinsing very thoroughly. Never use strong-smelling pine cleansers or ammonia. If you want to disinfect the box with bleach, dilute it with water first. Rinsing the box with boiling water is also effective. With covered litter boxes, the smell can be worse, especially with high humidity, so you must be willing to clean it more.
Choices of dining tables that you have are many, you have different shapes, and sizes. Plus many types of woods that you can have them made from. You don't even have to buy a wood table anymore, they have many other types of materials that may be used to make dining tables.
No matter what kind of dining tables you want to buy though you need to make sure it looks okay in the room. Buying one that is too big will shrink up a room quicker than anything. Making a room seem small, or really using up to much space will cause problems. Not only will it look bad, but people just may not have enough room to move around.
In the same sense though, you need to make sure that dining tables you look at are large enough to hold everyone. You should know how many people will be eating at the table on a daily basis. Get a table that is large enough for that many people for your smallest choice of table. Having guests over, you can think of ways to add more spots.
Most people are going to stick with dining tables that are wood, and you're going to have many choices. Picking a wood that you like is the best idea here. If you are hoping to find a table that has been made from a more exotic wood, look around, you may be surprised what you find.
There are many shapes of dining tables that you can look at. However, you need to make sure that the shape you pick is going to look okay in your room. It will cause an affect just as if you've bought a table that was too large, placing a table that doesn't fit as far as shape.
Decorating can be done by using dining tables as a focal point in the room. You just buy that table first and add other things that fit the look of the table. Remember that you don't always have to buy only new things to decorate with. Look at garage sales and flea markets for great bargains to add into the room.
Accessories that you have in the room will add and shouldn't take away from the focal point of your room. Area rugs are a great way to highlight dining tables, just make sure you have bought one that fits in correctly. The method to picking a good area rug is to find one that will cover the floor and give you enough room to move the chairs out from the table, and it will still be one the rug. Anything smaller than that just won't look good.
Make sure that you always compare several different places for prices on your dining tables that you are hoping to purchase. Don't forget that you can always buy a used table and sand it down and refinish it too. At times this may save you a lot of money, and will be a bit fun even.
