Rug Mexico

Japanese Say Ships Refused to Aid Drowning Vietnamese Boat People. Double standard in immigration policy?
Here's a good old story that was swept under the rug because only white people are supposed to be racist. As long as stories are quickly buried, people will forget the truth.
It's a good thing I've got a good memory. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=950DE0DF1E3AF937A15750C0A96F948260
Not only did the NEARBY ships ignore cries for help, Singapore refused to let survivors into the country.
While this was happening, the whole world shrugged. I believe people would've cared only if one of the apathetic ships were from a white country.
Were were the conspiracy theorists? It sure was convenient that the boat (ahem) "accidently" (cough cough) sunk.
Do you think Mexico would've taken them?
Believe it or not, some countries are so poor, that boat people from the carribean or South America try to seek asylum in Mexico. Guess how Mexico treats them?
Oops, I spelled caribbean wrong. My bad.
I'm a western (Caucasian, Canadian) living in Taiwan. My wife and I have been treated with the utmost kindness, hospitality, and generosity by the people in this beautiful place.
There have been a few times, when this has not been the case. Anyone who thinks that racism is a vice of white people is mistaken. And, believe you me, racism is a vice. Racism against white people is just as bad as any other kind. Chinese people used to call us "ghost people" and "barbarians", but times have changed.
I don't see how we are talking about a double standard in immigration policy. The law of the sea is that any vessel must stop and aid other mariners in distress. That has nothing to do with government immigration policy.
Each country has a right to make its own laws, including the right to grant or deny entry to anyone--for any reason or no reason. The application form for a visa to Taiwan says "submission of this application does not mean the requested visa will necessarily be granted, and the Republic of China is not obligated to provide reasons in the event this application is denied"--or words to tht effect. A "double standard" is when a person or a government applies a set of rules to one person but not to another, in a manner that is arbitrary.
I am shocked that anyone would leave other humans in to drown, but none of your other comments bear any correlation to immigration policy.
Mexico, by the way, has taken a lot of refugees--from Cuba and from the Spanish Civil War. You know the civil war I mean--the one where the western democracies sat on their duffs and allowed fascism to triumph. Now there's a real double standard.
Traveling throughout Baja, Mexico can be a thrilling adventure. Ensure your Baja travel adventure is enjoyable and does not suffer unnecessary interruptions by health or automotive mishaps. If you plan to drive from the U.S. to Baja, be sure to purchase insurance that covers while driving Baja roads and highways. U.S. insurance coverages seldom extend into Mexico, and even when they do, Mexican officials do not accept U.S. insurance as proof of financial responsibility.
Purchasing a policy for the specific dates you plan to visit Mexico through a Baja insurance agent ensures that you will have the proof required by officials.
In addition to Mexican auto insurance, purchasing travel health insurance is also a wise option for visiting foreigners. Mexico has different health care systems from the U.S. A Mexican insurance policy, which covers travel health expenses, can help you navigate this very different system. Additionally, if your current health insurance does not cover out of the country care, your Mexican insurance policy will. While everyone always hopes their vacation will be full of fun and frolic, unexpected illnesses strike, even on vacation. The peace of mind knowing the expenses will be covered regardless may not prevent illness, but it sure can make it easier to bear.
There are other insurance questions to consider when traveling to Baja, Mexico. For example, if you plan to rent a house during your stay, rather than secure a room or suite in a local hotel, ask the rental agency about the current insurance on the house. Baja homeowner's insurance may or may not cover damages or liability for injuries if the property is a rental. It is better to know ahead of time if accidents or injuries are covered under insurance, rather than waiting until you slip on a loose rug and fall down the stairs.
Insurance, both in the U.S. and in Mexico, is intended to cover unexpected expenses such as medical care and property damage. Knowing all the facts and covering all the bases in terms of necessary Mexican insurance prior to your trip can save untold headaches later. You can purchase Baja travel health insurance and auto insurance online before you leave. You can inquire about what is covered under Baja homeowner's insurance before signing a rental agreement. You can do all of this from the comfort of your home so that when you arrive in Baja, all you have to worry about is which beautiful site to see first.
You can now travel to Mexico with affordable and reliable Mexican insurance thanks to Oscar Padilla's MexicanInsurance.com.
